It’s almost summer, which could meanit’s time for a hairstyle change. Whether you’re a long hair girlielooking for a low-maintenance chop, or you’ve got a short hairstyle or medium length hair that needs fresh flair, now’s the time to have fun with it.
We chatted with two Los Angeles-based hairstylists who break down their favorite popular haircut ideas that are trendy on social media, red carpets, and beyond. From natural waves to face-framing layers and more, we’ve got your next hair look covered. And if you’re hellbent on your bob haircut, rest assured, the look isn’t going anywhere. Short haircuts are still very much in, with variations of the bob and shag haircut leading the pack. But if you’re in no rush to chop your shoulder-length or longer hair, that’s ok, too. There are a handful of laid-back styles that play up longer, natural curls and wavy hair.
No matter your hair texture or hair type (curly hair, fine hair, straight hair, thick hair, thin hair), our pros searched far and wide for the best haircuts and best hairstyles for your face shape and lifestyle. And leave it to us to provide the best haircare options to achieve the desired looks!
It's about glam time you treated yourself.
Jeremy Pugh is a hairstylist and popular content creator based in Los Angeles.
Matilde Campos is a celebrity hairstylist and male groomer based in Los Angeles.
“The wet look is all about high shine, sleek structure, and a confident finish,” says hairstylist Matilde Campos.
a) I want that wet, glossy finish—but without my hair feeling crunchy.
“Ask your stylist to start with damp hair and use a strong-hold gel or mousse that gives shine and structure, without stiffness,” Campos explains. “Let them know you want hold with flexibility.”
If you want to achieve the look from home, the lightweight AVEDA Phomollient Styling Foam offers flexible hold with bounce and body.
b) I want it combed through for that super sleek effect.
“To get that polished, editorial finish, your stylist should finger-comb the product in first, then use a fine-tooth comb to smooth everything into place,” the expert adds.
c) I love a slicked-back look—or maybe a deep side part.
“Let your stylist know if you’re going for a red-carpet slick-back, or want to add some drama with a side part,” Campos shares. “Either works beautifully with this style.”
d) Can we finish with a little shine and hold?
“Ask them to layer on a lightweight serum or hair oil for that glassy glow,” she says. “And a touch of hairspray to keep everything locked in—but still touchable.”
And we have just the products: The SUTRA Rejuvenating Hair Serum contains nourishing ingredients and amplifies shine, while the R+CO Outer Space Flexible Hairspray is buildable and lightweight, offering the ideal level of hold for your desired look.
Campos also shares a pro tip: ”If your hair needs extra volume or lift, suggest they use a mousse underneath the gel,” she says. “It creates a fuller wet look.”
“To get that messy, undone look like in the photo, think sultry, tousled waves,” Campos says. “They’ll have that natural texture and a bit of rock-n-roll edge.”
a) I want soft, lived-in waves with a little grit.
“Ask for loose, piecey waves that look like they’ve air-dried beautifully,” she suggests. “You want movement and body without the hair feeling too ‘done’ or polished.”
b) Can you use a large-barrel iron or wand—but not curl all the way to the ends?
“This keeps the texture modern and undone,” Campos says. “Have them alternate wave directions to avoid a uniform curl pattern.”
c) I’d love a dry texture spray or sea salt mist to break it up.
“Request that they finish with a product that adds a bit of grit and separation,” she advises. “Think beachy and matte, not shiny or stiff.”
We personally love the AMIKA Un.Done Volume and Matte Texture Spray, which was designed with this very intention.
d) Can we leave the fringe soft and piecey?
“If you have bangs or want a face-framing moment, ask to keep them light and intentionally imperfect,” Campos says. “They should look like they’ve naturally fallen that way.”
e) Please avoid anything too sleek—I want that “I woke up like this” feel.
“Make it clear you’re going for effortless, not glam waves,” Campos wants to make clear. “Volume at the roots and texture through the mid-lengths is key.”
“You know that iconic bounce that feels effortless but looks ultra-luxurious?” Campos says. “This is that! It’s polished, with a soft flip and volume that feels rich, elegant, and timeless.”
a) I want a classic blowout with a soft flip at the ends.
“Think ’90s meets modern,” she continues. “it should feel structured but not stiff. Ask for a round-brush blowout that gives movement, especially around the bottom of the cut.”
b) Can you keep it smooth and bouncy, not pin-straight or too curled?
“This look is all about that bend—not waves or curls,” Campos says. “Let them know you want body and a floppy, face-framing finish, not a set-in style.”
c) Let’s do a deep side part with sleek volume.
“This adds that luxe, editorial vibe,” the expert notes. “The side part keeps it glam and grown, while the smooth volume at the crown gives it that expensive finish.”
d) Please flip the ends out just a touch.
“The flip is everything,” Campos says. “Ask your stylist to give the ends a soft outward bend—whether with a round brush or flat iron—just enough to create that signature flick.
e) Keep it clean and shiny—like glassy but with movement.
“Ask for a smoothing serum or lightweight oil to finish the look and catch the light, without weighing the hair down,” she adds.
A light application of the AIIR PROFESSIONAL Smoothing Cream should hold the shiny strands in place with its babassu oil-infused formula.
“This short, chic bob hits right at the chin and pairs perfectly with micro bangs that graze above the brows,” says hairstylist and content creator Jeremy Pugh. “It’s giving bold, fresh, and effortlessly cool. Pamela Anderson’s version at the 2025 Met Gala turned heads with its soft, undone finish that felt modern and vintage all at the same time. This look gives editorial edge with minimal effort.”
A chin-length blunt bob with wispy, micro bangs that barely skim the eyebrows.
“Make sure your stylist keeps the bangs light, but not dense,” Pugh shares. “And the ends should be clean and defined. Use a small round brush to blow dry and detail the bangs with a mini flat iron. Finish with a smoothing cream for a soft, glossy finish.”
The MARC ANTHONY Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco 3 Day Smooth Perfect Blow Dry Cream is a perfect final touch during and after blow dry.
“The ‘mixie’ (pixie + mullet) is the edgy hybrid having a major moment,” Pugh shares. “Florence Pugh rocked this cut during her Dune: Part Two press tour, showing the versatility of this look on the red carpet. It’s short and bold, but still feminine—and the movement gives a playful and punk vibe.”
A pixie with longer layers through the back, but nothing too clean or faded.
“Ask for choppy texture on top and soft feathered ends around the neckline and ears,” Pugh says. “Rake through with a lightweight styling paste or texture cream with your fingers. This will look best when you style with your fingers so just have fun with the texture until you’re happy.”
“Selena Gomez brought back the sleek lob in a standout way at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party,” the hair pro notes. “This collarbone-length bob is all about precision: no layers, center part, and a super glassy finish. It’s the perfect style if you want healthy, luxe-looking hair without losing too much length. The ends can be flipped under, giving you versatility in the length.”
A one-length long bob with no layers that sits at or just above the collarbone.
“Mention you want a strong perimeter and a center part to keep it clean and sharp,” Pugh advises. “Blow dry smooth with a round brush back and under. Then, flat iron for a glossy finish if you have frizz or texture, and seal it with a lightweight shine serum or a light oil on the mids and ends.”
Our pick? The INH Hair Super Shine Serum smoothes flyaways and softens strands, thanks to a nourishing, glossy formula.
“Curtain bangs are still going strong, and maybe forever,” Pugh says. “And for good reason, because they work on almost everyone. Sabrina Carpenter made this style her signature, flipping them under and pairing them with soft swoopy layers that add bounce and movement. It’s so romantic and dreamy but also low-effort, and TikTok-approved.”
Face-framing bangs that part in the middle and melt into long, blended layers.
“Tell your stylist you want volume and softness, not a choppy or overly layered look,” Pugh says, sharing a tutorial he created for this exact style. “Use a round brush or velcro rollers to blow out the bangs from underneath, giving them that signature lift. Then use a round brush to flip each side out, away from the face so it blends into your styling on the sides. Add light mousse or volume spray to keep the layers bouncy and lifted.”
“If you love your length but want volume and shape, the butterfly cut is going to be your new BFF,” he raves. “Matilda Djerf wears this cut beautifully with long layers that flutter around the face and crown, while still maintaining her length.”
Cascading long layers that start at the chin or collarbone, with shorter layers up top for lift.
“Make sure they keep the bottom full,” Pugh says. “You want to keep the perimeter! Blow dry the top layers back with a round brush, or use hot rollers for lift. One of those thermal round brushes would also save you so much time with this style if you’re not handy with a round brush and blow dryer. Finish with a volumizing spray or powder at the roots to bring out the shape and add wow factor.”
The COMPLEX CULTURE Smoothing Blowout Brush is your best bet to not only dry the hair, but simultaneously style it into that desired shape.
“This bob barely grazes the jaw, and she’s ultra sharp and usually styled bone-straight with a deep side part,” Pugh explains. “It’s simple, strong, and gives high-fashion. Perfect for someone who wants a statement cut that frames the face and commands attention.”
A blunt bob that hits directly at the jawline with no stacking or layers.
“Emphasize that you want structure and shine, not texture or movement,” Pugh notes. “Blow dry straight with a paddle brush, run a flat iron through the ends with a fine-tooth comb, and finish with a high-gloss balm or shine mist.”
You can’t go wrong with the FOXYBAE HAIR Foxy Paddle Brush. In addition to its functionality, it also happens to be a really cute rose gold shade, making it the perfect bathroom accessory.
