What shapes your style? The cherry-coded trends flooding your feed, the friends in your group chat, the icons you grew up watching? For content creator Jenn Torres, who was raised in South Central Los Angeles by immigrant parents from Zacatecas, Mexico, the answer has always been this: her upbringing. “I grew up in a Black and Brown community, and that cultural mix has always shaped how I move through the world—and how I express myself through fashion,” Torres shares.
That deep connection to Latinx culture and pride for her community are what made Torres the perfect choice to design our Limited Edition Mystery Bags for Hispanic Heritage Month (which drop in the IPSY Shop on 9/15). She doesn’t consider herself a traditional designer, but she’s always used fashion and beauty to express herself, blending an eclectic mix of streetwear, glam, nostalgia, and heritage to reflect who she is and how she got here. You can see her style woven into every detail of this month’s stunning designs—a celebration of the culture that raised her.
It's about glam time you treated yourself.
Jenn Torres (@jen4rmtheblock) is a content creator, freelance model, and fashion-forward diva from South Central Los Angeles.
Torres knew right away that she wanted these designs to showcase her upbringing and cultural pride. Her parents immigrated to Los Angeles in the ’90s, and she says, “They always taught us to be proud of where we come from. There was never any shame in our roots, our traditions, or our story. That pride has stuck with me.”
A huge part of her family life was ranchero and ranchera culture, a Mexican countryside lifestyle defined by farming, ranching, and cowboy spirit. She brought elements of that into her full-size Mystery Bag design, which features a print of one of her favorite shoes: the bota. For the inside of the bag, she added her 4rom the Block logo for a personal touch. She explains, “While I’m proudly Mexican and ranchera, I’m also a South Central girl at heart. I wanted the bag to reflect both of those identities—to celebrate the fusion of heritage and home, tradition, and individuality.”
But designing these bags wasn’t all work and no play. Speaking about her sample-size bag design, she shares, “I really wanted the bag to feel luxe and beautiful, but still playful. I’m someone who believes fashion and beauty should be fun, expressive, and bold.” So she chose a luxe burgundy velvet fabric for the exterior, then contrasted it with a fun cheetah print lining to nod to her Y2K-era fashion influences.
These Mystery Bags don’t just give you a beautiful excuse to play; they’re a source of inspiration to just be you (which, at IPSY, we always stand behind). Torres wanted these bags to represent “first-gen Chicanas and first-gen creatives who grew up in communities like mine, where style is deeply rooted in heritage, in family, in resourcefulness, and in resilience.”
“They’re about self-expression without limits and taking up space in places where, for a long time, we weren’t always welcomed—but now, we’re not just entering those spaces, we’re reshaping them. This bag is a celebration of identity, creativity, and community. It’s for anyone who’s ever made magic with what they had—and looked damn good doing it.”
